Accountant

Position: Accountant/Accounting Clerk                     Reports to: Director of Finance
Summary: Tahlequah Public Works Authority is operated for the general welfare, safety, and health of the City of Tahlequah and the citizens thereof through the furnishing of adequate water, sewer, and electrical services. As an Accountant, you are expected to be highly skilled in all aspects of accounting and office procedures.
 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Requires accurate and responsive analysis and reporting of financial accounting information
  • Assist with balancing bank deposits on daily collections
  • Ability to conduct bank reconciliations
  • Ability to conduct appropriate research at the request of management
  • Accountable for fiscal year end reports for auditing purposes
  • Compiles financial and factual information from a variety of original and secondary sources and, if requested, assemble, organize, and/or present the information in oral or written form
  • Assists with asset, material, and project management and reports
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
  • Assists in processing payroll as needed, including Employee W-2 and 1099 Forms
  • Adheres to company policies and procedures, including regular and timely attendance, appropriate dress code, and ensuring a safe work environment
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Finance
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred or equivalent experience
  • Additional education, training, or experience in the business management field preferred
  • Must possess a valid State of Oklahoma driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the TPWA’s insurance carrier
  • Ability to interpret, understand, and follow oral or written instructions accurately and efficiently
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and mentor others preferred
  • Knowledge of basic computer functions and equipment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Adaptable to different situation and the ability to respond with flexibility in shifting positions and rapid change
  • Strong management, organization, and planning skills preferred
  • Willingness to comply with all applicable State and Federal Laws, as well as all Authority Policies and Procedures
  • Great customer service skills required
  • Must be able to work on scheduled deadlines and meet those requirements
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Moves, lifts, carries, and places materials and supplies weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds on an occasional basis without assistance
  • Occasionally reaches overhead and below the knees, including pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, crouching, and twisting with or without bearing weight
  • Rarely required to squat, kneel, or climb
  • Continuous repetitive motion with hand(s) and arm(s), such as typing, grasping, gripping, and turning
  • Stands and/or walks occasionally throughout shift, frequent sitting during shift
  • Visually locates materials and other objects, as well as verifies information, often in small print
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Primarily exposed to inside work with variations in heat, cold, dust, and humidity
  • May be exposed to solvents or chemicals
